Roses

Really strange epic battle dream. There were three kings, and they were each leading their knights and generals into a massive battle with one another. However, while the context of the world this was taking place in kept changing, as did the characters from whose point-of-view I followed events, the three main characters - the kings - remained the exact same.

The dream began in a futuristic setting aboard starships, with the kings being the starship captains. I saw this from the point-of-view of a member of the starship crew preparing for the battle. Then the setting shifted to a fantasy sword-and-sorcery D&D-type setting, with everyone riding off to the battle on horseback. I saw this part from the point-of-view of one of the kings, and learned this way that the three kings had cellphones and were taunting each other via text message before the battle began. That shifted things into a present-day setting where I was away from the battle, but aware of it from the point-of-view of a child in one of the kingdoms hiding from the battle in his house with his family, while his parents tried to comfort him with nursery rhymes. Things then shifted back to the D&D setting again; the battle had happened, and I watched the citizens of the winning kingdom celebrating the victory.

There was a sentence that was spoken by different characters in the different settings, and it's still stuck in my head upon awaking: "Roses are forever and ever, any old way, anyway." It was a spoken password to something on the starship, it was a magic spell spoken by a wizard in the D&D world, it was part of a nursery rhyme read to the child in the modern-day setting, and it was part of a celebratory song again in the D&D world. I awoke with that sentence echoing in my head.

First dream I remember from last night involved going to the wedding of someone I've only met once in real life. Some of my other friends were there, and it was all fun until Tommy Wiseau showed up. It turned he was "director of the wedding," and brought awful costumes and scripts that all the guests had to use in order to make the wedding fit his vision. I wanted to just leave, but my date at the wedding was someone on whom I've got a major crush so I stuck around.

A later dream took place in a corporate boardroom of some sort; one wall of the room was taken up by 1940s-military-style radio communication equipment. The crowd of people in there needed to use this equipment, and it was my job to get it working. One man tearfully thanked me when I was able to show him which plug to use for his headphones. An old lady then stole the headphones I had been using and claimed they were hers.

Finally, there was a dream which took place in the small theatre at which I worked as a teenager. I was suddenly back there working on a lighting design for an upcoming play. When the director found out she became really angry; apparently she hated me for some reason and started raging about how I wasn't supposed to be working there anymore. This is especially odd because she's someone with whom I worked there in real life, and was actually one of my closest friends at that place; we always got along really well.

Siento inusual.

I woke from a dream in which it was, for some reason, vitally important I find a Spanish-dubbed download of Withnail & I. Like, saving-the-world important.

I don't remember any further details about the dream, but I do sort of want to see that film in Spanish now.

I fell asleep listening to Internet radio, and dreamt I was working on a talk radio show (not the one at which I really work.) In the dream I couldn't get the controls to fade the music out so I could do my show, and ended up awkwardly shouting over it while interviewing Frank Conniff. One of the songs featured swearing, making me panic about getting bitten by the FCC and fired.

Recursion and explosion

Last weekend I was awake for around two days straight. When I finally did get to sleep, most of my dreams involved going to sleep. Inb4 Inception jokes.

Earlier today I nodded off briefly, and awoke with a single sentence echoing in my mind: "How do you drop a grenade into a can of paint, and not paint everything in the room?" I'm still meditating on that. Thoughts?

In a rare real-life note for my friends on DW/LJ, if you're in New York City on April 11 come see this show I'm in! </shamelessplug>

TARDISes? TARDeeSe? TARDI?

Had a fannish dream last night which involved the Eleventh Doctor and Jack Harkness running around my house as it looked when I was very young. At one point there was a plan to use one TARDIS to tow another, non-working TARDIS (which was a police box literally up on cement blocks) to a repair facility.

Even in my subconscious, fezzes are cool.

Later I ended up a student back in a particular school I've never seen in real life, but often attend in dreams. Upon waking I can never remember all that much about those particular dreams, though I think during each one I remember the events of the previous ones again, and there is a sense of some continuity and narrative between them.

Just woke from a dream in which I was listening to some classy evening-gown-wearing singer, Shirley Bassey or someone like that, performing a cover of Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" song in which the lyric was changed to "champagne."

I wonder if that's been done already in real life, it seems a bit obvious.

Come hear the tale of Skara Brae

I dreamed of playing the old Bard's Tale games I loved so much on the Apple IIe at least 100 years ago. As so often happens in videogame dreams, the perspective kept shifting between being myself playing the game on a computer, and being a character within the game.

I hadn't played or even thought about those games much in 20 years or so, but today I woke up desperate to play them again. I just downloaded the three games off this Bard's Tale site, in the original Apple II format, and shall take a shot at running through them once again. Woo!

Happy and merry holidays, current and belated, where applicable.

Good old-fashioned values

After not really sleeping for two days, I crashed for 13 hours and woke up feeling marvelous.

I had a dream which involved a Broadway musical version of Family Guy. My perspective kept shifting around between a member of the audience watching the show, an actor playing a character in the show, a technical person working behind the scenes of the show, and an actual character in the show. I remember finding it pretty hilarious, but of course all the jokes evaporated from my memory when I woke up.
